What is Vinyasa Yoga?

Vinyasa, a Sanskrit term meaning "to place in a certain way," is a style of yoga that emphasizes the coordination of movement and breathing. It is often called "flow yoga" because of its fluid, continuous nature .

Origins and philosophy

Le Yoga Vinyasa trouve ses origines dans l'Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga, développé par Sri K. Pattabhi Jois dans les années 1930-1940. Cette méthode s'inspire du "Yoga Korunta", un ancien texte découvert par le guru de Jois, T. Krishnamacharya.

Course of a typical session

Initial centering: A moment of calm to connect with your breathing and set an intention.

 

Warm-up: Often begins with Sun Salutations to prepare the body.

 

Main sequence: A series of standing postures, balance, forward and backward bends, twists and inversions.

 

Floor work: Seated postures, deep stretches.

 

Final relaxation: Usually in Savasana (corpse pose) to integrate the benefits of the practice.
